Season 20 Update
Sky Mavis has released a patch before the release of Season 20 to ensure sufficient time for testing. They mentioned that they may have some hot fixes before Season 20 is launched.
The Season 20 Update is a stand-out from the previous updates by Sky Mavis. This is the first time the Dev Team has actively sought community input during a rebalance of the game and went through over 40 sheets of community suggestions. Sky Mavis sees this as one of the initial steps towards bringing the community closer to the act of co-creation around Axie.
Sky Mavis has also released a few teasers for the much anticipated Axie Origins update. They said, “Origin will introduce new economic balancing features such as vertical progression of Axies which will introduce much needed sinks for the economy.” This also includes a new trading system.
As noted in our previous article on the Top 5 Solutions to Fixing the Axie Economy, the above quote is a welcomed sign that the Sky Mavis Team is working on some solutions towards helping the Axie Economy.
Balancing Buffer Period
Sky Mavis noted that the primary goal of card balancing is to ensure that each card is distinct and sufficiently powered so that all cards can be seen as having a balanced set of strengths and weaknesses.
While Season 20 has not officially launched, the Team has released the update in hopes to find any bugs that may appear before the official launch. You will see all of the changes in the images below:
UPDATE: As shown above in the tweet from Jihoz, the top three reports from the community are as follows:
1. Removing scarab as a debuff
2. Anemone nerf was too harsh
3. Little Owl nerf makes that card underpowered
Based on the community outreach so far, it looks like the Devs will make the necessary adjustments to the above issues. It would not surprise us to see a hot fix for these issues in the next day or two.
7500 AXS for Esports Tournaments
Sky Mavis is putting up 7,500 AXS (Approx. $600,000USD at the time of writing) for its Season 20 Tournament organizers. If you are an organizer of Axie Infinity Tournaments, then you can APPLY HERE to get your share of the 7,500 AXS Prize pool for your tournament.

- Apps for the 2nd round of Axie Esports grants are live! 7500 AXS has been allocated form the play & earn pool in prize money and expenses for over 75 community tournaments
- This Esports grant will require approved tournaments to have at least 20% of their final participants from open qualifiers that must be announced at least 2 weeks in advance.
- Approved tournaments will also be required to provide live streams in 4 languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Tagalog
- They are accepting event proposals from January 15th – January 25th from community tournament organizers
Key Notes
Up to 5% of allocated AXS can be used for event expenses
A maximum of 150 AXS will be allotted to any one event
A single organizer can submit up to 3 events for this grant
Season 20 Launch Date
Sky Mavis has said, “We’re targeting 2 weeks from now for the launch of Season 20.” That makes our projected Season 20 Launch Date approx.—the First week of February 2022. If they have issues with the update, pending the severity and length of time it takes for a hot fix, than the expected launch date of Season 20 will be later in the month.
Axie Orgin V3 Battle Updates
Sky Mavis has been building up the anticipation of Axie Origins and Battles V3 with some very exciting teasers and even a back story involving an Axie named Bubba (shown below).
There are some really cool new BUFFS that the Team is implementing into the V3 Battle System, adding an entirely new dimension to the game we haven’t seen before.
The new effects are cool, and testing has already begun. The response to the changes are quite overwhelming at this point, but the Devs are doing their best to go through many of the reports and suggestions. Once everything has been gathered, the Team will work on a final rebalance for the Season.
